Picture for Life (PFL)

Implemented by Plan India, this programme involves children in undertaking a social equity audit through photography in the wake of the December 26 2004 tsunami. Implemented in 10 villages in Nagapattinam district, Picture for Life (PFL) is an example of community governance centred around children's participation. The goal is to equip children in specific tsunami-affected communities with the skills and the space to meaningfully contribute to the relief and reconstruction processes of their own communities.
Communication Strategies
Approximately 30 children were trained in using digital cameras and carrying out a social audit of the rehabilitation measures.
Thereafter, children analysed their findings and shared their conclusions with other community members through meetings and other communication-related activities. Plan supported children in developing alliances and networks and launched a website detailing the project.
Development Issues
