Child rights action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Campanha Igual a Você - Criancas Vivendo com HIV - Just Like You Campaign: Children Living with HIV

This material was produced in 2009 by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It emphasises that there should be no room in schools for prejudice against children living with AIDS and suggests that they deserve respect, just like everyone else.

This spot is part of the Just Like You Campaign (Campanha Igual a Você), a campaign against stigma and prejudice in Brazil. The campaign includes ten 30-second spots in which different groups of people confront stigma - gays, lesbians, transsexuals/transvestites, sex workers, drug users, people living with AIDS, refugees, children living with HIV, and students in general - and express their desire to be respected by others.

The majority of the protagonists are real people (not actors). Through their testimonies, they promote human rights and call for an end to discrimination. This campaign is directed at young people, children, and the educational community.
