South African Child Gauge 2010/2011

The South African Child Gauge provides an annual snapshot of the status of South Africa's children. It is published by the Children's Institute, University of Cape Town, to track South Africa's progress towards realising children’s rights. The 2010/2011 issue focuses on children's participation, with a particular focus on the notion of children as citizens and their right to participate in social dialogue and in decisions that affect them.
The book explores strategies for ensuring that children can participate in their own health care, in schools, government, and the media (radio, television, newspapers). It also looks at children's experiences of participation, and how this can change the way adults connect with children. The book is divided into 3 parts:
- Part 1 looks at laws and policies that affect children.
- Part 2 takes a closer look at a particular topic, such as health or education.
- Part 3 looks at numbers on children's access to schools, clinics, social grants and other services.
The publication, as well as a table of contents, accompanying summary, double-side poster, and other resources can be downloaded from the link below.
