Child rights action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText

This document, published by Save the Children UK (United Kingdom), is a guide for Save the Children staff and others to develop and support children's meaningful involvement in the governance, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of their work. The guide is organised into two main parts, the first being an introduction to children's participation in practice, and the second being a set of guidelines focussing on specific themes, including governance, advocacy, media and communications, and emergency situations.

The introduction to children's participation section of this document includes discussion on the planning, facilitating, and evaluation of participatory sessions or activities with children and young people. Sample tools, techniques, and embedded links to supplementary resources are provided throughout the section.

The second section of the manual outlines some of the ways children can and do participate in specific areas. These areas include communication-related themes such as advocacy, organisational governance and decision-making, media and communications work, and the participation of children in emergency situations. As with section one, this section contains embedded links to other pages in the document and supplementary web resources.
