Child rights action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Get with IT: A Parents' Guide to New Media

SummaryText
This publication, developed by Ireland's Internet Advisory Board (IAB) as part of the Get with IT initiative, was designed to be a parents' guide to new media, to help build understanding and sharing of new media technologies between parents and children. It aims to give parents an overview of what some of the new technologies are, and how they function. It explains both how new technologies can be a fun, creative vehicle for young people to learn and communicate with, as well as offers some suggestions about the potential dangers that these technologies may pose.

The booklet also answers common questions that parents ask, and provides an A-Z glossary of new media technology and content. The final section offers ideas for further help and information such as useful websites, recommended software, and agencies that may offer additional advice.
