Child rights action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Chinese Children's Painting Competition

The Luo Hong Foundation in conjunction with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has launched the 2nd Chinese Children’s Painting Competition. This competition is aligned with the UNEP International Children’s Painting Competition held annually since 1990.

The theme of this year’s Chinese Children’s Painting Competition is Climate Change: Our Challenge. The initial selection of the paintings will be completed at the school level, and shortlisted paintings will be presented for national selection, which will be made by a team of judges. The panel of judges will be composed of renowned Chinese artists, UNEP officials, and the Chinese Children’s Painting Competition Chair.

The first prize paintings from the national selection will be submitted to the global selection of the UNEP International Children’s Painting Competition. As in previous competitions, the first prize winners of the Chinese Children’s Painting Competition will be invited by the sponsor, Mr. Luo Hong, to attend an award ceremony at UNEP Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.

The deadline for application is February 20 2009.
